Set against the dramatic mountains and flowing waters of Japan, Nachi Shrine captures the striking contrast between the brilliant architecture of the shrine and the natural beauty surrounding it. The vivid reds and greens of the structure stand boldly against the cliffs, waterfall, and peaceful landscape.
In Nachi Shrine, I wanted to capture the beauty and color of Japanese architecture and the way it exists in harmony with nature. I was inspired by the Kumano Nachi Taisha shrine and the magnificent Nachi Falls. For me, the painting represents the beauty that can be found when human creativity and the natural world come together.

A powerful train charges through a quiet town beneath the night sky, its billowing smoke filling the darkness and transforming the peaceful scene with a sudden sense of movement and energy.
In Midnight Express, I wanted the train and its enormous trail of smoke to feel almost like a fire-breathing dragon roaring through a peaceful little town at night. I was drawn to the contrast between the strength and motion of the train and the stillness of the town surrounding it. For me, that contrast gives the painting its drama—the feeling that something powerful has suddenly awakened the night.
