My Ancestors Journey reflects on the painful journey of captured Africans during the 15th century in Ghana. The children walking behind a school teacher to represent generations forced to leave behind their homes, families, and way of life connected by chains whereas the children are holding hands. Beginning a journey whose consequences would reach across centuries. Through this painting, I wanted to acknowledge that difficult history while honoring the strength, endurance, and humanity of those who came before us.
Original acrylic painting by James Harper — The Harper Gallery.
Dimensions: 18" H × 24" W
